Vector Quest UMT × SKMT: Pursuing Knowledge, Empowering the STEM Generation
The “Vector Quest UMT × SKMT” Community Outreach Program was held on June 13 and 20, 2026, at Sekolah Kebangsaan Mengabang Telipot, Kuala Nerus. Conducted in two phases, the program involved 40 Year 6 pupils and undergraduates from the Bachelor of Electrical Technology (Power Energy) with Honours program at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). This initiative was part of the Service Learning Malaysia–University for Society (SULAM) implementation for the ETK3013 Engineering Mathematics I course.
The program aimed to introduce basic vector concepts to pupils through an interactive, contextual, and enjoyable learning approach. Key concepts—such as direction, two-dimensional coordinates, and vector magnitude—were presented in a simplified manner tailored to the primary school level. Active and game-based learning strategies were employed to help pupils understand the relevance of mathematics to daily life, as well as to the fields of science and engineering.
The first phase, held on June 13, 2026, focused on introductions, ice-breaking activities, and an overview of basic vector concepts through a session titled “Getting to Know Vectors.” Pupils were then guided in small groups through mini-teaching activities facilitated by UMT students. The second phase on June 20, 2026, featured the main event: the “Vector Treasure Hunt.” This activity required pupils to navigate through various checkpoints and complete tasks involving direction, coordinates, and basic vector applications to obtain the next clue.
Sincere appreciation and gratitude are extended to the Centre for Knowledge Transfer, Industry and Community Network (PPIJI) at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu for providing the funding that made the “Vector Quest UMT × SKMT” program a success. Acknowledgement is also given to the management, teachers, and pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan Mengabang Telipot, as well as all UMT lecturers and students who were involved—directly or indirectly—throughout both phases of the program.
