2nd International 3 Minutes Research and Innovation Competition 2025
1. COMPETITION OVERVIEW
The 2nd International 3-Minutes Research and Innovation Competition (3MRIC) 2025 provides a global platform for undergraduate, postgraduate, and all researchers to showcase their innovative ideas organized by COcean (Postgraduate Student Club), Faculty of Ocean Engineering Technology (FTKK), University Malaysia Terengganu, Malaysia. Participants are required to deliver concise, engaging, and impactful research presentations within three minutes. The competition encourages research from all disciplines, including science, technology, engineering, and social sciences.
2. CATEGORIES
- Undergraduate (Matriculation/Foundation/Diploma/Bachelor)
- Postgraduate (Master’s/PhD)
- Open/Research (Researcher/Lecturer/Industry Expert/Others)
3. REGISTRATION AND FEES
- Malaysian Participants: RM50 (includes one physical medal and a printed certificate).
- International Participants: FREE (receive an e-certificate only).
- Additional Medal: RM50 each.
Note: The participant category is determined solely by the presenter’s affiliation. Presenters affiliated with any institution in Malaysia will be considered Malaysian participants, while presenters affiliated with institutions or universities outside of Malaysia will be considered international participants. The affiliation of team members does not affect the categorization; only the presenter’s affiliation is taken into account.

4. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Abstract: Must use the official abstract template provided
Poster: Must use the official poster template (A0 size, soft copy)

5. PRESENTATION GUIDELINES
- All presenters must be ready 30 minutes before their allocated slot.
- Maximum duration of the presentation is 3 MINUTES and 5 MINUTES for the Q & A session.
- Pre-recorded videos are not allowed.
- Attire: Presenters are required to wear semi-casual attire during the presentation.
- The presenter must open their camera during the presentation.
Presentation Materials Guidelines
- MS PowerPoint format or Canva is used to prepare the slide, or others.
- PowerPoint format: 16:9 ratio (1920×1080 pixels)
- Language: English
- The slide must include the TITLE, PRESENTER NAME, INSTITUTION, and official 3MIRIC 2025 logo
- Content Must Include: Introduction/Background, Objectives, Methodology, Results/Findings (if applicable), Innovation/Contribution, and Conclusion/Recommendations.
- However, presenters are allowed to prepare their slides or presentation material as their preference.
6. AWARDS
- Best Presenter Award from each group.
- Best Poster Award from each group.
- Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals for each category.

8. EVALUATION OF RUBRICS
BEST PRESENTER
Presentations will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Content clarity and relevance (30%) – the extent to which the presentation clearly communicates the research objectives, methods, and outcomes in a concise and accessible manner.
- Delivery and confidence (30%) – the speaker’s ability to present with confidence, maintain clarity of speech, and demonstrate appropriate pacing and tone.
- Engagement and creativity (20%) – the degree to which the presentation engages the audience and employs creative approaches to explaining complex ideas.
- Time management (20%) – adherence to the three-minute time limit and effectiveness in prioritizing key information.
BEST POSTER
Poster submissions will be evaluated using the following criteria:
- Visual clarity and organization (30%) – the design, readability, and logical flow of information presented in the poster.
- Research content quality (30%) – the depth, and significance of the research content presented.
- Creativity and innovation (20%) – the originality of the research idea and the innovative manner in which it is presented.
- Overall impact (20%) – the poster’s ability to convey a strong and memorable impression of the research contribution.
MEDAL CRITERIA (GOLD, SILVER, BRONZE)
Overall presentation performance will be recognized with medals based on the following standards:
- Gold – outstanding quality of research, innovation and presentation.
- Silver – very good quality of research and presentation.
- Bronze – good quality of research and presentation.
Note: The decisions of the organizers and judges are final and any objections will not be entertained. The organizer reserves the right to cancel the winnings if any fraud is found.
